Dark Skies Movie Review

I have an interesting story about scary movies, it goes a little something like this:
I didnt watch many movies or even TV for that matter when I was a child, infact I was well into my teens before I started to really get into movies and going to the cinema.
As a result I had never seen a scary movie in the 80s and as they went out of fashion till Scream was released I had made it to my young adult life having never seen even the slightest scary movie...let alone a full on Horror.
This left me very easy to spook and without a word of a lie I actually had to walk out of Scream twice in the same screening.

I never got to see the whole thing till it came out on dvd!
So being the all or nothing kinda guy I can be I set out on a mission to be able to watch scary film. Basically I was desensitizing myself.....if not conscious most defiantly intentionally.
The result was extreme...I could and did watch just about any and every thing.
I went from the guy that couldnt watch Scream (I still find the opening scene scary though) to catching myself smiling in movies like Bad Boy Bubby.

So what does any of this have to do with a movie called Dark Skies?

Its Scary! Not gory spooky but good old "in a dark room by yourself at night" scary.
Dark Skies is a great fresh take on the boogy man/aliens theme and is really quite tense from beginning to end.
The cast is good, the filming is good, the sub plot is kinda strange and the oldest son rides a hipster bike.

I could go on about how I think scary movies supply a feeling that we dont get in modern society and thats why we like them etc but I wont.

If you like scary movies I think you will enjoy Dark Skies

4 and a little bit out of five
