Iron Man

Another of my old reviews, originally from 2008

Thought I'd kick off my reviews blog with what I think is the coolest movie of 2008...Iron Man.

So here's the thing: I like comics but don't think much of super hero movies. There are a few exceptions to that rule, namely: Batman Begins, the Crow, Blade (don't mention the sequels) and I actually really liked Electra (I know I'm gonna get flamed for that one).

I wasn't expecting great things from Iron Man.
Here's why: Jon Favreau is a great director but how cheesy would a swingers style superhero movie be? and Robert Downey Jr is a great actor but Stark is meant to be a super brain hard ass, I actually thought Robert would be too cool for the role.

I love going to the movies with a low expectation and getting blown out of the water...Iron Man did just that.

The first time I saw It I was in open mouthed awe from the very first scene.
Firstly at how cool Robert was and looked (in spite of crazy facial hair) and then in how quickly my favorite director smacked you around with the super intense gunfight.

Iron Man (2008) is what all super hero movies should be.
Its fast, fun, cool, loud and a fair bit violent.

Its not the smartest movie and there are no real plot twists to name but it is exciting and visually arresting from beginning to end.

This is Robert's best part since Natural Born Killers and I cant think of anyone else that could have played Stark in such a cool way.
Every single decision Jon Favreau made was near perfect. The cars, the house, the baddies, and all the support actors were all spot on. Even Jon's cameos were cool and understated.

I think Iron Man shows that making a great action movie these days is more than just telling a good story.
It's also about doing it in a cool way. Hell Jon even made Uma cool!

I read this short review that I wish I wrote: "Iron Man is like two movies one very good super hero movie and one movie with Robert Downey being really cool...." and I totally agree but I'd like to add: and the two movies work perfectly together.

Ive seen it twice at the cinema and would go again any day if someone wanted to pay for me. And i can't wait for the sequel.

A download wont do it justice.
Go see it at a cinema if you still can.
